A tale of Squirrels and Storms


In this talk, we given an overview of Flink’s compatibility layer for Apache Storm. This layer can be used to execute whole Storm topologies without code adaption. Furthermore, single Spouts or Bolts can be embedded as single operators in regular Flink streaming programs seamlessly. Furthermore, this talk points out high-level and internal differences and commonalities of Flink streaming and Storm.

About the speaker

Matthias Sax

Matthias is a PhD student at the Databases and Information Systems Group
(DBIS) of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin working with Prof.
Johann-Christoph Freytag, PhD.

His research focus is data stream processing working with Apache Storm
and Apache Flink. The aim of his work is to auto-tune/configure stream
processing jobs according to the expected workload.

Matthias interned at HP Labs (Palo Alto), SAP (Berlin), and IBM SVL (San
Jose). He also worked on the Stratosphere system and contributes to
Apache Flink and Apache Storm.
